The Outreach Ministry Team asked members of the congregation to fill backpacks with school supplies for some of the children in need who attend G.B. Little School, right next door to us.  Your donations counted ... and made a difference!

St. Mark’s 2011 Holiday Hampers

In conjunction with Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities, St. Mark’s
Outreach Ministry Team sponsored Holiday Hampers for 50 local
families in need during the Christmas Season. Each hamper contained nonperishable
food for one week, a $50 gift card for fresh food (meat, fruit, vegetables),
plus gifts for all family members.

On Tuesday, Dec. 13, an enthusiastic group of volunteers transformed the sanctuary into a venue
to pack the hampers, which were delivered that week.

On Dec, 11, the Sunday School presented – “The Christmas Hampers Project”.

Instead of using a stock play, Jeffrey Dale decided to write something that would be relevant, and would mean something to the members of the congregation, including the youth.   Since he came to St. Mark's in 2010, the one aspect of the church that he found to be an all community encompassing event was the 'Christmas Hampers' project.

This year, he wrote our pageant play inspired by the stories/experiences of the St. Mark's people while they helped with the Christmas Hampers Project.  The end result was inspiring, moving, and heartfelt.  As well as hilarious at times!

With thanks to all those who helped!

GLINT was a one-hour online twitter-based not-so trivial contest organized by Give a Day on the topic of HIV and the people and places most affected by HIV. There were 200 questions in 1 hour, recognizing that 200 people in the world die each hour because of HIV.

On noon on Thursday (Dec. 1), St. Mark's, thanks to the organizational skills of Anne Greenwood and Jeffrey Dale, played along.  We had a great time and learned a lot, and, when all of the answers were tallied, we were a runner-up!
